Q+A – Meredith O’Connor
What are some ways people without large followings can make a difference in alleviating bullying in every-day life?
“I tell my fans at my concerts, and at schools- that being a positive role model even as a student can completely change someone’s life. If a student decides to set an example, weather it be standing up for the person being bullied, or just showing that including others is important, other students will follow them because at the end of the day people watching it happen are just waiting for the bigger person to follow. No matter who you are, you can save a life. It’s scary, and not the easy choice always, but everyone has that power and by choosing to use it, they can make a big influence as well.”

Meredith visited Glenfield College today, her message is simple – Talk to someone…
“The harsh reality is that people (not only children) all over the world have bullied or experienced bullying to some extent. To this day, bullying is amplified through social media and cyber-bullying is completely out of control. The problem is that not enough emphasis is being placed on empathy, compassion and self-esteem. Therefore, people resort to bullying as a way to feel better about themselves through putting others down. Contrary to popular belief, it is not only the victim of bullying that needs love and support but the person who did the bullying as well.”
